No Pep talk will make me leave! Bayern target Suarez wants to stay at Liverpool for 'a long time'

Luis Suarez admits he is living the dream at Liverpool and intends to stay at Anfield for 'a very long time'.
The Uruguay forward took his goal tally to 22 for the campaign with the opener in last night's 2-2 draw at Arsenal.
The often controversial Suarez has quickly become a cult hero since his £22.8million move from Ajax on transfer deadline day two years ago.

The 26-year-old intends to continue to drive Liverpool on as they look to develop into Champions League challengers once again under Brendan Rodgers.
'I hope (to be at Liverpool) for a very long time because it's a massive club that kids dream about playing for,' Suarez told the club's official website.
'I've been very proud to be at a club like Liverpool and to have made the decision to come here.'

He added: 'In two years I've lived through some spectacular and very special moments that I will never, ever forget.
'There have been a few difficult times as well, but with the support of my family, the club and the fans, things have gone well for me.'
Suarez continued: 'I do feel at home here. When I'm out and about, all I get is support and encouragement from the local people and that's very important and when I come here to the club I feel like people have known me all my life.
'I hope to be able to help out the team for as long as I possibly can while trying do something to make the club and the fans very happy.'

Tottenham leave it too late to sign Brazil star Damiao as AVB misses out on striker

Tottenham have missed out on signing Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.
Spurs have long been linked with the Brazil striker, 23, but despite making a bid of £18million, the London side have been unable to force through the move.
Reports from Brazil suggested that Internacional are holding out for an extra £2m but Spurs could still complete the deal in the summer.

Internacional director Marcelo Medeiros claimed the attempt to sign Damiao failed because Spurs did not offer enough money.
'Leandro Damiao won't leave, the offer was below what we wanted,' he was quoted as saying on Globo Esporte.
Spurs are used to leaving it late on transfer deadline day but any deal for Damiao would have been particularly complicated because around 30 per cent of the player's economic rights are held by third-party investments.
The protracted nature of negotiations had led Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to favour a summer bid for the striker but the north London club had decided to act today.
Boss Andre Villas-Boas has long insisted he is happy with his current strike force but Jermain Defoe missed Sunday’s FA Cup defeat by Leeds United with a niggling pelvic injury and Emmanuel Adebayor will be at the Africa Cup of Nations for longer than expected after Togo qualified for the quarter-finals.

Daily Fotball News
Internacional sporting director Luis Cesar Souto de Moura told Brazilian media: ‘Leandro Damiao will only leave if there is a very quick negotiation.
‘The news involving interest for Leandro Damiao, especially from Tottenham, will always happen, they come and go.
‘Damiao has a lot of quality, is a goalscorer, was the top scorer in the Olympics and he is a very important player. Internacional understand that it’s extremely difficult, very difficult, for Leandro Damiao to leave now.’

Odemwingie at Loftus Road to push through QPR move... but Baggies deny striker permission to speak to Londoners

Harry Redknapp faces a battle as he tries to sign Peter Odemwingie after West Brom released a statement saying they have not given the striker permission to speak to the Londoners.
Redknapp turned his attention to the Baggies forward after giving up on Peter Crouch at Stoke and Odemwingie was in London to push through a move before the 11pm deadline.

Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing and Rangers were confident of reaching an agreement and Odemwingie signing a £70,000-a-week deal.
But West Brom said on their website just after 8pm: 'Albion have moved to clarify developments regarding Peter Odemwingie after the striker was filmed a short while ago arriving at Loftus Road.
'The club can confirm they have held further discussions with QPR today but those talks have so far proven fruitless and no agreement has been reached.
'Albion would also like to make clear that Peter has not been given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.'
QPR confirmed West Brom's story was correct and that the 31-year-old striker had turned up at Lotus Road 'unannounced' and that he had 'been denied access to the stadium'.

Redknapp is a big fan of the player and said: 'Peter Odemwingie has pace, great movement.
'I like him and is a player that has always given us problems when I was at Tottenham.
'I think if we can get Odemwingie he would be a great signing for us, but whether we can pull it off I am not sure.'
Odemwingie has been outspoken against West Brom on Twitter over recent days, but claims that is in the past now and is hopeful of playing a part in keeping Rangers up.
'It's fine. West Brom was my home but this is a new chapter. I love West Brom and always will,' he told Sky Sports News.

I am optimistic. A few good players have arrived here (at QPR) and I am happy with the trust Harry Redknapp has in me.
'The last few results have given us a chance to stay up. I don't think the owners will bring in so many players if they don't think it will happen.'
He added: 'It's not 100 per cent. I hope West Brom are happy with what they will get and they hope to get players themselves.'
The QPR manager has already signed Christopher Samba for £12.5million but looks set to be busy in the remaining hours.
Redknapp is also still chasing Tottenham trio David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend.
'I am trying to take the two lads from Tottenham on loan, Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend,' he told London Call-In.

'I managed the pair of them at Tottenham and JJ is a midfield player who can get from box-to-box.
'He is a good player, played for England, good lad and has a good attitude. I think he will be a good player for us.
'And Andros Townsend I think is a kid with a fantastic future. I like Andros an awful lot. He is a strong, quick, brave winger.'
Like Odemwingie, Jenas then arrived in west London and confirmed the plan was to sign an 18-month deal.
He told reporters: 'That's initially. I am fit and ready to go, it's a top club and I am confident the manager can make sure the club stays up. I know Harry well, spent a lot of time with him at Tottenham and know him well enough.
'It's a top club, has some good players and not in that bad a position. They're four points off safety and can definitely claw that back.'

The left-back is in London putting the final touches on his move which will mark Arsene Wenger's first signing of the transfer window, and will set the Gunners back £8.5million.
The transfer was forced through following the thigh injury sustained by Kieran Gibbs in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Monreal, 26, is a former Malaga team-mate of Arsenal star Santi Cazorla and has been capped by Spain on nine occasions.
He could be thrust into Arsenal's starting XI for the visit of Stoke on Saturday with Wenger having little faith in the error-prone Andre Santos.
Earlier, Arsenal were dealt a blow with the news that top target David Villa won't be joining the north London club this month.
Wenger had made the 31-year-old striker his top priority, but he was seen shopping in Barcelona this afternoon.

It was reported earlier that Arsenal were keen to sign Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Amorebieta, but the defender has told the Gunners he wants to stay in La Liga until at least the summer.
Monreal, who is cup-tied for the Champions League, arrives at Arsenal in good form after scoring his first goal for Malaga in their 3-2 win over Real Mallorca on Sunday.
The Spain defender signed for Malaga in a £6million deal in the summer of 2011 after coming through the ranks at Osasuna where he made over 100 appearances.Daily Fotball News

Fulham boss Martin Jol praised his defensive heroes after win over West Ham

Fulham boss Martin Jol hailed his defenders as the real heroes after his side beat West Ham 3-1 at Craven Cottage.
Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring in the first half and althoughKevin Nolan equalised straight after the break, Hugo Rodallegareplied immediately and Joey O'Brien's injury-time own goal sealed the win.
The Hammers pushed hard for an equaliser prior to that third goal and Jol was full of praise for the way his team held on for the three points.
"They didn't play on Saturday and you could see that," Jol told Sky Sports. "I had a few tired players second half. The defenders played like heroes. They put us under pressure.
"We said on the bench they would bully us and they scored straight away after half time. We didn't pay attention and it's not the first time.
"Then we got the goal, which was great, but we couldn't keep the ball and that's what you want - the first pass forwards you should keep and then everyone can exploit the space.
"But I'm a happy man because we needed these three points."
Jol opted to pair Berbatov and Rodallega up front after using the former as a lone striker in recent weeks and the Dutch coach revealed the thinking behind the decision.
"We needed a striker today to play off the shoulder and to stretch them because we analysed them," he added.
"And obviously we knew what happened at their place when Berbatov came on and we played much better so we did the same today. We were lucky that it paid off."Daily Fotball News

Transfer News: Fulham set to sign Urby Emanuelson from AC Milan

Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted he is close to bringing in AC Milan's Urby Emanuelson on loan until the end of the season.
The Dutchman was speaking after his side's 3-1 victory against West Ham at Craven Cottage which lifted them above their opponents.
Jol admitted he is targeting a couple of players before the end of the January transfer window, which closes at 11pm on Thursday.
He told Sky Sports: "As you know Damien Duff likes to play down the right. He always plays on the right, so we thought we should do something about the possibility of bringing a player in so of course Duff doesn't have to play on the left if we are short.
"Emanuelson is a midfield player who can play on the left and can play in the middle of the park and I thought it was necessary to bring in a couple of players to freshen up the team."
Jol also plans to bring in a right-back to fill the void left by Stephen Kelly's departure to Reading, admitting PSV's Stanislav Manolev is the man he hopes to lure.
Jol also played down talk that Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone could arrive at Craven Cottage.
"I think it is awful to get a permanent transfer for someone like Huddlestone on the last day," he said.
"I started five weeks ago and that won't happen on the last day."
However, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed after his side's draw at Norwich that Huddlestone has been allowed to speak to Fulham after being left out of the squad.
"There was an interest from Fulham. I'm not sure if they're going to follow on that interest," he said. "We've allowed the club to speak to the player. He's a player we rate very highly."Daily Fotball News
Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs will miss the next three weeks a thigh injury, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed

The left-back limped out of Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Liverpool suffering from the problem and was replaced by Andre Santos.
"He has a thigh strain that rules him out for the next three weeks. It's a blow for us of course," Wenger said.
"He was an important player for us going forward and the game we wanted to play. It's a shame he's out for the next three weeks."
Gibbs will miss Saturday's meeting with Stoke and a further Premier League clash against Sunderland, while he could also be a doubt for the Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich.
Wenger admitted he may make a move for a replacement on the final day of the transfer window on Thursday.
One man Wenger admits will not be coming to the Emirates is David Villa.
The Barcelona man has been a target of Wenger's but a deal has failed to materialise and when asked if it was dead, he said: "Yes."Daily Fotball News

Transfer news: Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers not expecting Tom Ince move

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he is not expecting to bring Tom Ince back to Anfield before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
The England U21 international has been linked with the Reds for the past couple of months but no deal appears to be on the horizon.
However, Rodgers has not ruled out a move for the 21-year-old at some time in the future.
He said: "I think it will be difficult now. We could still do the deal but it looks like one that is a bit too complicated at this stage.
"It's about affordability as well. If Tom stays at Blackpool it doesn't mean he won't join Liverpool at a later stage."
Ince, who left Liverpool for Blackpool in August 2011, has also been the subject of a bid from Reading this week but Royals manager Brian McDermott has ended his interest because the Seasiders do not want to sell their star player.
"Thomas won't be coming here," McDermott said. "Blackpool are very strong about wanting to keep him. I'd be amazed if Blackpool lose him in this window. My gut feeling is they've managed to keep him."Daily Fotball News

McCarthy's Musings: Unsatisfying draw leaves U.S. hopefuls to wonder about their places

U.S. coach Jürgen Klinsmann said he will weigh the entire training camp as he selects his squad for the Hexagonal opener in Honduras next week.

HOUSTON – Tuesday night loomed as the payoff for a group of U.S. players seeking to work their way into the mix for the trip to Honduras next week. They slogged through three grueling weeks of training camp for this one public chance to reinforce their case for future inclusion.
It didn't happen.
The final opportunity to impress Jürgen Klinsmann turned into an exercise in frustration. Not one of those players entered the night with the goal of fumbling around against a defiant and organized defense for 90 minutes and stumbling to a 0-0 draw against Canada.Daily Fotball News

Liverpool completes 11.8 million pound Coutinho signing

The 20-year-old has agreed personal terms and completed a medical at the club's Melwood training ground to become the Reds' second signing of the January transfer window

Liverpool has completed the signing of 20-year-old Inter midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazil international joined the Serie A side from Vasco da Gama in 2010, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Spanish side Espanyol.

The Premier League side agreed an 11.8 million pound transfer fee with Inter after seeing its initial bid of 6.5 million rejected.

Speaking to the club's official website, Coutinho said: "I'm feeling very happy, it's a very important step in my career and I'm expecting to come here and play good football to give my contribution on the pitch.

"Liverpool is a great club with great players. We've always heard about Liverpool's history in Brazil. They are the club that have been interested in me and that have showed this interest so I know they believe in me and my football."

Coutinho becomes the Reds' second signing of the January transfer window after the move to sign Daniel Sturridge, with only one day remaining to complete any other deals.

Southampton was also interested in the playmaker following his work with new Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol, but Coutinho made his preference to sign for Liverpool clear.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre added: "We're always delighted when we get the players we go after.

"It has been a successful transfer window for us, coming off the back of acquiring Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and now Philippe from Inter Milan.

"I think that bodes well for us for the rest of the season and the future."Daily Fotball News

Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona: Cesc and Varane share strikes in absorbing contest

Los Blancos' French center back produced an exemplary performance, which included a fine late goal, to help cancel out the Blaugrana's opener early in the second half

The shares were spoiled in a pulsating Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu, as a thumping late header from Raphael Varane earned Real Madrid a 1-1 draw in the first leg of its Copa del Rey semifinal against Barcelona.

The Catalan side looked to have put one foot in the final as it led late on after Cesc Fabregas had put the club up 1-0 with a well-taken goal shortly after the break, only for Madrid's young defender Varane to secure the home team a draw in the 81st minute.

Madrid was without five first-team players for its fourth Clasico of the season, as Iker Casillas and Pepe missed out because of injury, while the likes of Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao and Angel Di Maria were all absent through suspension. Barcelona, meanwhile, named a full-strength starting lineup.

For all their missing men it was los Blancos that made the brighter start of the two sides. Within a minute of kickoff Ronaldo was charging at the heart of the Barcelona defense, and his driving run towards goal was only stopped by a cynical challenge from Gerard Pique. The Portuguese attacker took the set piece himself and proceeded to force Pinto into making a fine diving stop.

In the 12th minute a moment of mastery from Andres Iniesta created a chance for the overlapping Jordi Alba, but the Barcelona left back could only volley wide of Diego Lopez's goal after bursting through the Madrid defense and connecting with Iniesta's effortless chipped pass.

Moments after being booked for a mistimed challenge on Cesc Fabregas, Ricardo Carvalho bundled into Iniesta 25 yards from goal, and from the resulting free kick Xavi came within inches of giving Barcelona the lead, as his devilish curling effort rattled the crossbar with Lopez beaten.

Carvalho then nearly supplied an assist for Barcelona when his tame back-pass allowed Messi to steal the ball and tee up Xavi inside the Madrid box. The Barcelona midfielder arrowed a shot towards the bottom left corner but Madrid's young center back Varane was there on the line to brilliantly hack Xavi's goal-bound strike away from danger.

On the half-hour mark, Karim Benzema nearly scored for the home side when he found space in behind the Barcelona backline to meet Jose Callejon's superb pass and send a volley crashing into the side-netting from a tight angle.

Somehow, a frantic opening first half ended 0-0 despite an avalanche of chances being created by two teams putting clear emphasis on attack rather than defense.

Madrid mimicked its strong start to the first half after the break and fashioned a chance after just 40 seconds of the second period - Benzema hammering a shot over 18 yards from goal.

Despite its pressure, Madrid found itself a goal behind in the 50th minute when Fabregas clinically side-footed the ball past Lopez after being played in by Messi. Just a single touch was needed by Messi to both dispossess Xabi Alonso and play a weighted through ball into the path of Fabregas, with the former Arsenal captain producing a cool finish to give the Catalan side a 1-0 lead.

Then, if not for a sumptuously timed challenge from Varane, Fabregas could well have given Barcelona a two-goal lead. The Frenchman's tackle on his opponent brought Jose Mourinho to his feet, and prompted the coach to make an immediate change with his team on the back foot - introducing Luka Modric for Callejon.

Ronaldo then missed a glorious opportunity to head Madrid level from close range, but he could not test Pinto after connecting with Essien's teasing cross from the right.

Pique, perhaps not to be outshone by Varane up the other end, then produced an equally brilliant tackle on Ronaldo as the Portugal international shaped to send a shot goalwards inside the Barcelona penalty area.

With Barcelona seemingly set to hold out for the win, up popped Varane in the 81st minute to rise highest and send an emphatic header past Pinto from Mesut Ozil's free kick to make it 1-1 and set up an enticing second leg at Camp Nou on Feb. 26.Daily Fotball News

Reading 2 Chelsea 2: Sub Le Fondre hits two in final five minutes to rock Rafa

High up in the stands at the Madejski  Stadium, Chelsea’s firing squad were shaking their heads in disbelief.
On the field Adam Le Fondre was soaking it all up after rescuing Reading with another remarkable contribution after coming on as a substitute.
Chelsea Chairman Bruce Buck, technical director Michael Emenalo and chief executive Ron Gourlay were all present to witness their team wobble like jelly in the final minutes. The legs have gone in this Chelsea team, shot to bits as they limp from one fixture to the next.

By the time Le Fondre came on as a 67th minute substitute for Jobi McAnuff, Chelsea had only just  finished celebrating Frank  Lampard’s 196th goal.
By the time they walked off the field there were haunted looks, vacant expressions among the  players after Le Fondre scored twice in the final minutes.
There will be twitches at Chelsea’s training ground this morning, with fear sweeping the corridors of power as the big men prepare for another brutal analysis. Buck, Gourlay and Emenalo always turn up at matches together when the going gets tough. For a club of Chelsea’s standing — the fifth  biggest club in Europe in terms of revenue — this is as bad as it gets.
Really bad.
That heavyweight trio all report back to owner Roman Abramovich independently and naturally there are some serious misgivings about the managerial performance of Rafa Benitez. No-one could argue about that.

The rot has set in and Le Fondre made sure of it after securing one of the most unlikeliest points in the history of the Barclays Premier League.
They were two down and on the verge of their 13th defeat in the top flight when Le Fondre delivered a masterclass in finishing.
Chelsea’s fans were rubbing it in after Juan Mata’s sparkling  performance put them on course for a fifth successive league win.

By the time Le Fondre scored Reading’s equaliser, 94 minutes and seven seconds into this game, it was back to the bad old days.
Benitez was getting it again as they made their way out of the  stadium and Chelsea’s boardroom contingent would have been of much the same opinion, minus the bad language.
This is critical point for Benitez. It was embarrassing, revisiting Sunday’s shocking show in the FA Cup at Brentford with their failure to clear the ball in times of distress. They had done the hard yards, securing a two goal advantage thanks to the mastery of Mata.

He sparkled, latching on to Fernando Torres’ lofted pass over the Reading defence to score Chelsea’s opening goal.
It was a terrific move, a throwback to the good times when Chelsea used to carve teams open with their attacking thrust.
The players are there, particularly with the ability of Mata and Oscar. Mata, back in the starting line-up after he was rested at Griffin Park in the Cup, was also the architect of Chelsea’s second.
His outswinging corner met the head of Lampard and Chelsea’s stand-in skipper is now within six goals of Bobby Tambling after  powering his header past Adam Federici. They should have been home and hosed. Instead there is another inquest after Le  Fondre’s intervention.

Brian McDermott’s side are beginning to believe they can escape the drop. Le Fondre has scored five in his last three league games, establishing a reputation as a super-sub with crucial strikes.
McDermott said: ‘I speak to Adam as much as I can. I’d like to start him in matches, but we are trying to find a way of getting results. We are trying to find the solutions, but the boy’s happy and the team’s happy because of the past few results.
‘I’m pleased for him, but it’s  difficult to pick the team at the moment. He trains like he wants to be the best and he’s getting better all the time.’
His finishes were of the highest order, reading the pass of Hope Akpan to flash a left-footed effort beyond keeper Ross Turnbull.

Even then Chelsea should have had enough to see this out, relying on players such as Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic to shepherd them towards three points.
Instead they blew it, shutting down as Reading threw bodies into the box for one last effort.
By the time Akpan’s looping header made its way across the area, Reading had a queue of players waiting to beat Turnbull at the far post.
Inevitably it was that man Le Fondre who made the move for a stunning equaliser, taking full responsibility for Reading’s revival.

Cole set to win 100th cap as England boss Hodgson sticks with old guard for Brazil clash

shley Cole is in line to win his 100th England cap and join an elite group of footballers in next week’s friendly against Brazil.
Cole is expected to be in a 25-man squad named on Thursday by Roy Hodgson, who has ditched his plan to blood more youngsters in Wednesday’s friendly at Wembley against the next World Cup hosts.
Raheem Sterling, Wilfried Zaha and Jonjo Shelvey — all capped at senior level this season — are pencilled in for Stuart Pearce’s Under 21 squad, who face Sweden in a friendly at Walsall on Tuesday.

Chelsea left back Cole, 32, has only played once for England this season due to injury and the progress of Leighton Baines.
He is often rested from non-competitive internationals on account of his fragile ankles, but he remains first choice and will be just the seventh England footballer to reach the century.
Steven Gerrard did it in Sweden in November, joining Peter Shilton, David Beckham, Bobby Moore, Sir Bobby Charlton and Billy Wright. Cole has started every game he has played for his country, winning his first cap in 2001 in Albania and his 99th in Poland in October.

Hodgson, Pearce and FA director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking agreed it would be beneficial for the younger players to join Pearce as he prepares for June’s European Under 21 Championship in Israel.
The tournament often sees players withdraw but, unlike predecessor Fabio Capello, Hodgson is in step with the idea that experience and success at Under 21 level can help his senior team.

Arsenal 2 Liverpool 2: Gunners' defensive frailties exposed, but Walcott completes comeback

Arsenal fought back from two goals down to draw with Liverpool in a thrilling Barclays Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Both sides knew defeat could prove fatal to their hopes of closing back up on the top four, but neither looked ready to settle for anything other than all three points in an open and entertaining match.
Liverpool took an early lead through Luis Suarez after terrible defending by Arsenal, and then looked to be in complete control when Jordan Henderson walked in a second on the hour.

However, as so often in a frustrating season, the Gunners suddenly burst into life as in-form Olivier Giroud reduced the deficit with a close-range header and Theo Walcott then rattled in an equaliser.
There were more chances at each end, but defeat for either side would have been an injustice.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had recalled his regulars tonight, making seven changes from the side humiliated at Oldham in the FA Cup on Sunday.
It was a bright start by the Reds, their travelling support displaying a banner protesting against the infamous £62 tickets for away fans.
A slip by Bacary Sagna let Glen Johnson away down the left.
His cross into the Arsenal penalty area was miskicked by Thomas Vermaelen, just back from an ankle injury, and Wojciech Szczesny produced a good reaction save from Daniel Sturridge at the far post.
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey, though, failed to clear with a tame flick and the ball broke for Suarez, whose curling shot then deflected off Per Mertesacker to wrongfoot the goalkeeper.
Arsenal almost produced an immediate response as Walcott got ahead of Jamie Carragher, but his snapshot was straight at Jose Reina.
The match remained open, with Sturridge dragging an angled shot across the face of goal.
Arsenal also continued to press, and Reina was again called into action as he turned a curling effort from Walcott around the post.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard then produced some desperate defending as he hooked Lukas Podolski's cross through the six-yard box behind.
The visitors, though, almost made it 2-0 on 27 minutes when Szczesny got nowhere near a corner from the left and Daniel Agger's header was hacked off the line by Podolski.
Arsenal were forced into a change before half-time when Kieran Gibbs hobbled off and Brazil defender Andre Santos came on.

Szczesny was almost caught out when rushing from his goal to close down Henderson on the left corner of the penalty area, but the Liverpool midfielder chipped the ball onto the roof of the net - much to the relief of the backpedalling Poland goalkeeper.
Arsenal came close to a leveller early in the second half when Podolski floated a pass from the left out to the far post, where Walcott arrived to head it just over.
It proved a costly miss as Liverpool extended their lead on the hour.
Henderson battled past Santos and into the right side of the penalty area, before then holding off two more defenders. As the ball bounced back off Ramsey's boot, he stabbed it past Szczesny.

Arsenal needed an immediate response, and got it on 64 minutes when Giroud planted a header into the far corner from Jack Wilshere's right-wing free-kick.
Before Liverpool could settle, the Gunners were level.
Santi Cazorla worked the ball out on the right side of the penalty area to Giroud. His lay-off teed up Walcott just outside the six-yard box and the England forward lashed an angled drive across Reina into the far corner.
Walcott curled a 20-yard effort just wide after running along the edge of the Liverpool box.

Gerrard was somewhat fortunate to only have been shown a yellow card by referee Kevin Friend after jumping in with his foot raised on Mertesacker.
The 6ft 7in German was, though, soon up again as he headed a free-kick from Wilshere just over at the near post.
Reina saved at full stretch from Giroud as Arsenal looked for a late winner, with the Frenchman then scuffing an effort from close range.
Suarez saw a late strike turned away by Szczesny in stoppage time as a thrilling encounter finally ended all square.
